International Publishers: Have your books published and sold in South Africa

We have always been proud of the fact that even though we are based in South Africa, we have been able to publish work from writers all over the world, and have them available anywhere in the world.

However, a problem has been identified in the South African market. When South Africans want to order books from online stores such as Amazon, the shipping costs are usually more than the price of the books themselves. If they are lucky enough to find the books in our local bookshops, the prices are so high compared to local writers, that they are dissuaded from purchasing them.

No matter where they order it from, it is just too expensive.

This creates a roll-on effect for the publisher. Not only can their books not succeed in the South African market, but they had to reduce their royalties just to lower the retail price of their books.

And this is where we come in. Being based in South Africa, we are able to offer a publishing arrangement where we assist in bringing your books to South Africa, online and in bookstores, in a way that makes it cheaper for the readers and brings in more royalties for the writers.

We would love to represent you and your books here in South Africa. And in order for us to present this offer to you, we invite you to visit our International Relations page, where we set out our services and where you can complete and submit a query for our consideration.

So if you would like to know more about making your books more available to South Africans, feel free to let us know.

It’s a New Year, and Our Publishing Site has a New Look!

Welcome to 2019!! And welcome to our new website!

We’ve been threatening to redo our website ever since we expanded our business model last year. We moved from simply publishing books to, well, so much more. Our site still only showed books that we published, and much of what we had taken on as a company was lost to the audience.

Well, no more…

As you can see by our menu bar, we do so much more than publishing books now. We have spread across much of the writing industry, incorporating other entertainment media such as games, movies, music, and also included writing news, opportunities and training.

You may think that we have taken on so much more, but we’ve actually been managing all these divisions over the last year. All we have done is increased efficiency by bringing it all together and managing it under one roof.

Our home page explains everything we do now, but for ease of reference, here are our branches within Celenic Earth Publications:

  • Celenic Book Publishers: publication of novels, novelettes and short story anthologies, mainly fiction, as well as adaptation of games or movies into books.
  • Celenic Game Studios: partnering with game developers to supply writers for game stories, as well as adaptation of novels or movies into games. CGS also releases news on games and the gaming industry, namely on AIR Entertainment.
  • Celenic Film Studios: partnering with movie producers to supply screenwriters for film scripts, as well as adaptation of novels or games into films.
  • Celenic Music Studios: partnering with music producers to supply lyrical writers for songs, as well as integration of music into films and games through our partners.
  • Celenic Comic Central: publication of comic books, comic strips for magazines and newspapers, and celebrating comic developers around the world.
  • Celenic News Publishers: key focus on news with regards to writers and the writing industry, with a focus on newsletters and magazines.
  • Author Mentor Studios: training writers and developing their skills further.

Feel free to browse our website. We will be updating our social media in the next few days to incorporate all our branches, as well as releasing new logos for our new brands, so watch our for news on that.

Final note: We are aware that the site may not spread over the width of computer screens at the moment, but our techies are on it!

Our Second Fantasy Anthology is available for Pre-order!

Celenic Earth Publications is happy to announce that our second fantasy anthology is finally available for Pre-order! We have been working hard the last month to finalise our second fantasy collection, and we hope that it will bring as much success as the first CEA Past your Reality volume did, outselling all our other anthologies except for CEA Greatest Anthology Written, our world record anthology of 108 short stories.

Neon Sword Cyberpunk Role-Playing Game is Live on Kickstarter

7633b1182a9815415850ef6696217149_original

Good morning followers

You must be wondering why I am posting about a game on my author’s blog and not just keeping it on AIR Entertainment or Steemit.

Well, that is because I am very much involved with the game as a writer and a voice actor. I have been working on some short stories for the game’s website. I am also pretty excited to get started on some novels based on the game’s lore.

One thing at a time though. For now, we are focusing on the Kickstarter campaign that has been setup. The funds will help push through the final stages of development and towards publishing the game, first on PC and then hopefully on console.

Here’s a small write-up of the game:

“Neon Sword is an open world 3rd person top down action roleplay game with elements of business simulation. The non-linear story has multiple choices that effect the world around you leading you down many paths; the person you become is shaped by your decisions made within the game.

Another crime goes unsolved in the city that is the cesspit of humanity! Well, not if you have any say in the matter as you start a personal crusade of revenge. Are you the hunter or the hunted? You will turn Quaid City upside down hosing the streets clean of the human vermin that infest the dark shadows out of the neon glare. Shape the destiny of Quaid City.

Do you use commerce or violence as your weapons of choice? Purchase and manage businesses to get on the property ladder and build your income. Manage a deep and vibrant economy in a dynamic world that evolves around your every action. Strive to bring order to a city in the depths of despair. Will you be businessman or the ultimate bounty hunter? Customizing your character for the perfect kill with scores of weapons, skills and accessories that allow you to bring swift justice to the factions that stand between you and sweet revenge.

The time has come to wield the Neon Sword.”

Very exciting indeed. I cannot wait for you all to try this game out. The lore is kind extensive, which led me to writing the short stories and novels in the first place. I am just grateful that PeaHead Games gave me this opportunity.

I will keep you updated on the game and story development. For now, please visit the Kickstarter page. Here is the video for the event.

Warm Regards

The Count of Celenic Earth

We are very excited to begin this new journey with John and releasing these books as soon as possible. Currently we are finishing up Man of Stone for his approval and are anticipating releasing it within this month. Look out for our pre-order announcement!

And here is a quick word from John on Man of Stone:

Man of Stone

Genesis…

Although I fiddled with rhyming poetry over the years it was only when I returned to NZ in 1996 from a 29 year holiday in Australia that I began to write in earnest. This came about in the traditional manner… love poetry for a girlfriend. Terrible stuff really.

However, it morphed fairly quickly into observational stuff and I began to get a “feeling” for what I was doing. I met a woman on the Internet in a writer’s group who was living in Greece and after a quick trip there to meet up she decided to move to NZ. This English ex-pat was the trigger for me… this novelist/writer and embryonic poet inspired me to take stock of what I was doing and I blossomed at
age 60.

A few years flashed by and I was submitting globally to online magazines and ezines and on fire. In 2005 I decided to approach a publisher in NZ with a view to publishing a collection and my Muse must have had a few drinks because the first publisher I offered my work to loved it and contracts were signed. A friend’s daughter, an art student, did some illustrations for it and soon I was a published poet.

Man of Stone was a minor success, but alas the publisher closed shop and that was the end. I wasn’t experienced enough to attack the world with the book, so it has been languishing for years now. Lucky me again… South African Publisher, Celenic Earth Publications , so we are off and running!

Thank you, Shaun Jooste!

It is a pleasure John! This is what we do. Assist writers in getting their word published and read around the world!

And finally, here is an interview done with John which we were given permission to share on our Youtube channel, with some words about John beneath it.

John Irvine was born on October 14th 1940, in working class suburb in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Life as an only child was often lonely, more especially for a “fat kid” with no father, in spite of close family ties and an encouraging mother. His mum says he began writing poetry as a child. None survive, probably just as well!!

It was a conventional childhood and adolescence, with all the usual desperate issues associated with a post-war, testosterone-loaded young man. Girls, drinking, cars…nothing changes except the size of the cars. Working at 15 years old with no academic qualifications meant limited career options, and eventually, after an early unsuccessful marriage, the lure of Australia drew him to that marvellous country. There, on a working holiday that lasted 281⁄2 years, he drifted like a leaf on a fickle breeze. He
saw a lot of the Outback from the seat of a motorcycle or from behind the wheel of an old 4WD Nissan Patrol, accompanied for twelve of those years by his beloved dog/companion, Mr Mo.

He worked at employment as he found it—selling cars, cooking, crewing on cruising yachts, managing businesses, farming and even a brief stint in Papua New Guinea operating a jungle resort. After a return to New Zealand at the end of 1996, and the cold realisation that at 56 years of age he was unemployable, he began to write. First there was love poetry, then, as time dribbled by, he began to take a retrospective look
at his own life. Since meeting up with an English-born woman from Greece on the Internet 15 years ago, he has been writing short (flash) stories as well, mainly horror.

They now share an idyllic life-style on New Zealand’s picturesque Coromandel Peninsula, living in a small rural community surrounded by hills and the ocean.

He hopes to die peacefully one day without warning and minimal leakage.

Welcome to the CEP family, John!

Our Guinness World Record Event Was a Great Success

On Saturday 17 March 2018 we held our official Guinness World Record Anthology launch at the Parow Library in Parow, Cape Town, South Africa. It was a spectacular event, with the main focus on promoting Library Week, introducing our local writers, and talking about our company Celenic Earth Publications. If you missed it, no worries: we will be making a video of it shortly and broadcasting it on our YouTube channel. The photography and filming were done by our Director of Photography, Brent Peters.

In the meantime, here’s rundown of what you missed:

frame-3217103_960_720

The event started off with visitors to the public library. Library manager Jacinta Avontuur was introduced and thanks for the opportunity to hold the event at the Library. She was provided an opportunity to explain what Library Week was all about as well as the program for the week ahead. Celenic Earth Publications was thanked for starting Library Week off with the Guinness World Record event.

Next we introduced an up and coming music band, LittyFam. Artist Jason Paulse was at the event and was provided with an opportunity to speak about the band’s singles and future album. Celenic Music Studios, the music division of Celenic Earth Publications, will be providing full support for the band.

As a final part of the welcome, local writers that took part in the anthology were introduced. We were fortunate to have the following writers at the event:

  • Chantelle Salt
  • Brigette Ronne
  • Alistair Davidse
  • Caroline Reid
  • Theolin Tembo

The event was officially witnessed on behalf of Guinness World Records by Jacinta Avontuur and Chloe Rushovich.

We took the opportunity to introduce Celenic Earth Publications as a publishing company based in South Africa that accepts writers from all around the world, and makes their work available internationally.

For those who do not know, we briefly summarised the main three streams of publishers as follows:

  • Traditional Publishers: those who have a set niche of writers they accept from agents, whom they pay to write certain types of novels and who takes sales royalties until they have obtained their return on investment.
  • Vanity Publishers: those that writers pay to have their books published, but who take no part in sales of marketing of the books.
  • Self Publishers: usually writers who publish their own work, or publishers who assist writers in publishing their own work.

Celenic Earth Publications was proud to announce that it fell in none of the above categories. CEP accepts writers from around the work with no upfront fees, like most publishers do these days with new and unknown writers. The main focus is anthologies where new writers can test their writing in the market.

CEP assists by going through the entire publishing process, and only takes payment from a percentage of sales. In this way, we feel that we have earned the payment and writers don’t have to break their bank just to reach their dreams of being published.

Kenny Bergsma, the author of the popular Flats Justice that was published last year by CEP, was introduced at the event. The details of his novel were shared, as well as his two upcoming books already in the publishing process, Fresh Observations and Questions.

CEP has many programs and activities coming up for the rest of the year, including the start of a craft market for writers, the opening of a bookstore to rival the likes of Exclusive Books and CNA (to name a few) where new writers are introduced, as well the establishment of a non-profit organisation where CEP will go into poor communities to find that writing talent hidden by poverty and assist them in writing and publishing their work. It is hoped that through charitable grants that CEP can open Celenic Writing  Centres throughout the City of Cape Town where potential writers can come in and learn how to write.

It was finally time for the main event. The tables were laden with copies of CEA Greatest Anthology Written, our anthology of 108 short stories spanning across various genres. The history of the application to break the current record of 50 writers published in 1 volume was explained as well as the momentous journey it took to get here. Writers from all over the work too part in the anthology, so it was a global event as well as a global anthology.

Achieving this World Record would be a cornerstone for CEP in the publishing industry. Many other anthologies are also published by CEP, but each one is based on a specific genre. CEA Greatest Anthology Written takes all the genres in one volume, creating a special treat for everyone and their unique reading tastes.

A word went out to thank the sponsors of the event that made it all possible, with the largest thanks being offered to Doctor, physician and investor Scelo Mthiyane, who provided the funding for the printing of the books.

The Order Page was provided to all that attended if they wanted to order online instead of physically at the event, since many arrived at the Library to return books or simply to see what the event was about.

Conclusion

After the event, 3 copies of the anthology were handed over to the Parow Library as a donation, so if you are a member of the Library feel free to head on over to rent the book for a few weeks and obtain your taste of literary bliss. We are in process of getting our books in all South African libraries and possibly some libraries overseas too.

We are busy planning for sales launches where you can buy them in the malls. More on this in time to come.

I want to thank everyone that was able to attend and to all those that showed us some great support. It was fantastic meeting you all and introducing our company to you.

2018 Celenic Earth Anthology Schedule and Submissions

Last year, we had an ambitious start to our anthology line-up when we created a monthly schedule of anthologies to be published. This was just before Guinness World Records approved our attempt at a world record for Most Authors Contributing Towards an Anthology of Short Stories and things got a bit crazy at the office. The Anthology listings were placed on hold.

This year, we want to approach this with more style. All anthologies are open for submissions, depending on which genre you are aiming for. Anthologies will be published based on demand and number of writers available, and we will continue to call for submissions until we have met our quota per anthology.

If you’re interested in having a look at our anthology collection, you can visit our Submissions page at the details. Please complete the Contact Form on that page if you’d like to discuss a certain anthology in detail.

PS, we are still busy planning the revamp of our website to include all the divisions now under Celenic Earth Publications. We want to present the ultimate experience. More details on that to come soon.
